Nature based solutions
Nature-based solutions become more and more important to achieve the global goals (SDGs) within the planetary boundaries. The ambition of this CoP is to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals and building landscape resilience including resilience to floods and droughts.
The CoP will work to better understand how to mainstream Nature based Solutions (NbS);
This includes how to enable them through better:
1) Organisation that fits NbS (cross-sectoral mandates)
2) Get them acknowledged as a measure to reduce risks and include them in risk assessments and risk strategies.
3) Finance mechanisms (budget sharing etc).
4) What policies and regulations are needed (eg linking risk and nature).
5) How integrate NbS in ongoing implementation (changing work processes etc).
Many actors are active in this field of work, and there is a diversity of toolboxes, networks and projects. For example:
- A catalogue of nature based solutions for urban resilience, World Bank
- NBS Contributions platform, UNEP Listing many different initiatives on NBS from around the world, from various organisations
