On behalf of colleagues at Helvetas Perú:
The Andean forests are a little known treasure and a hotspot of biodiversity and endemism. They provide essential ecosystem services and products, not only for local communities, but also for economic centres on the Pacific coast and people living in the Amazon Basin and thus for the economy of the Andean region and South America as a whole.
However, the Andean forests are vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Unsustainable and competing land uses have led to significant reductions of their area and fragmentation.
You are cordially invited to an exchange on the Andean Forests this Friday 5 of November at 3 p.m. Central European Time (event in English with simultaneous translation to/from Spanish).
The team of the Andean Forests Programme will present these unique forests and the contributions of the Andean Forest Programme (2014-2021) to their management, conservation and restoration. Jean-Laurent Pfund, Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) of Switzerland, will provide a Swiss perspective. There will be space for you to discuss with colleagues of the programme team.
