Mitigation: Chad has committed unconditionally to reducing 18.2% of its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and compared to the business as usual scenario. With external support that reduction could be increased to 71%. Mitigation activities to achieve these goals focus on renewable energy production, energy efficiency, reforestation/afforestation, waste management, improved agriculture practices, and sustainable resource management. Adaptation: Climate change adaptation is a priority for Chad, and the national government is focusing its adaptation efforts on regions and social groups that are vulnerable to climate change, internally displaced populations and refugees as a particularly vulnerable group. Fully meeting Chad's adaptation needs will require international support with building human, institutional, technical, financial, and technological capacity. Across sectors, Chad's adaptation priorities include improving seasonal forecast and meteorological knowledge, building community level knowledge of and capacity to respond to climate change risks., improving agricultural production techniques, reinforcing the technical capacity and revenue sources of farmers and fishermen, and creating an observatory for policies related to climate change adaptation. Chad is also focusing particularly on adaptation through improved techniques, management, and technology in the water, agriculture, livestock, and fishing sectors.
